On 3 June 2026, ENVI and TRAN Members will discuss the draft report on the Commission proposal on Clean Corporate Vehicles, which is part of the Automotive Package. The proposal aims to accelerate the uptake of zero- and low-emission vehicles in corporate fleets while supporting industrial competitiveness and the transition to cleaner mobility. The proposal introduces tailored national targets for the share of zero- and low-emission cars and vans registered by large companies from 2030 onwards, while excluding SMEs from its scope. It complements existing CO₂ emission standards for manufacturers by strengthening demand for cleaner vehicles and supporting the development of the second-hand market for zero-emission vehicles. The proposal forms part of the EU's broader climate, industrial and mobility policies and seeks to contribute to the Union's 2030 and 2050 climate objectives while preserving flexibility for Member States in implementation. Members will discuss key amendments tabled in the draft report, including provisions on targets and scope, the inclusion of e-bikes and cargo bikes, the definition of the "made in the EU" concept, measures to strengthen the second-hand market, and the balance between technological neutrality and the prioritisation of zero-emission vehicles. On 2 June 2026, ENVI Members will consider the draft report on the revision of Regulation (EU) 2019/631 on CO₂ emission standards for cars and vans, which forms part of the Commission’s Automotive Package. Regulation (EU) 2019/631 sets CO₂ emission performance standards for new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles and is a key element of the Union's Fit for 55 framework and climate neutrality objective for 2050. The Commission proposal aims to adapt the framework to market and technological developments by revising the 2030 and 2035 CO₂ reduction targets for cars and vans and introducing fuel credits, low-carbon steel credits, and a harmonised EU framework for vehicle labelling and consumer information, adjusted reduction targets for light commercial vehicles, extended super-credits for electric vans, the creation of a category for vehicles running on eligible fuels, which would include all RED-compliant fuels, and the earlier application of fuel and low-carbon steel credits. The deadline for amendments is on 9 June, at 11am.Source : © European Union, 2026 - EP

On 2 June 2026, ENVI Members will hold an discussion regarding the Commission report on the simplification review of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Director-General Eric Mamer will present the report and accompanying simplification measures aimed at facilitating the implementation of the Regulation and reducing the administrative burden for operators. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), adopted in 2023 and amended in 2024 and 2025, requires the Commission to carry out a simplification review and report on possible further measures. On 4 May 2026, the Commission published its review together with a set of accompanying simplification measures. These include updated Guidance and FAQs to clarify obligations across the supply chain, a draft delegated act revising the product scope, improvements to the IT platform, and plans for new trade facilitation tools such as repositories of national legislation and recognised certification schemes. The report concludes that the measures introduced since 2024, together with the new simplification actions, are expected to reduce annual compliance costs for companies by around 75% compared to the initial framework, while significantly reducing administrative burdens. The Commission decided not to present a new legislative proposal. Source : © European Union, 2026 - EP
On 2 June 2026, ENVI Members will hold an exchange of views with the European Environment Agency and the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change on two reports on climate adaptation, published in February 2026. The exchange will provide an opportunity to discuss the impacts of climate change and recommendations for strengthening the EU’s adaptation policy framework. Discussions will focus on the reports "Overheated and underprepared: Europeans' experiences of living with climate change" and "Strengthening resilience to climate change - Recommendations for an effective EU adaptation policy framework". The first report, jointly developed by the European Environment Agency and Eurofound, explores climate-related impacts, resilience actions, perceptions of local measures and concerns about future climate risks. Members will also exchange reflections in view of the future second European Climate Risk Assessment report, expected in the third quarter of 2028, which aims to place climate resilience at the centre of EU decision-making and inform the next EU policy cycle. The exchange of views will also provide an opportunity to discuss the Scientific Advisory Board's recommendations on how the EU can strengthen its adaptation framework in response to escalating and increasingly systemic climate risks. On 1 June 2026, ENVI Members will hold an exchange of views with Commissioners Hadja Lahbib and Jessika Roswall on the Commission Communication on wildfire management. It will provide an opportunity to discuss the Commission’s approach to address the growing risks posed by frequent and severe wildfires across Europe. The debate may focus on the shift from reactive firefighting towards integrated wildfire risk management, with a strong emphasis on prevention, ecosystem resilience and cross-sector coordination between environmental, forestry and civil protection policies. Members may address measures to improve sustainable forest and landscape management, reduce fuel loads, promote nature-based solutions and climate-resilient ecosystems, and integrate wildfire risks into land-use, biodiversity and restoration policies. The exchange of views will also provide an opportunity to discuss EU-wide wildfire risk mapping, monitoring and early-warning systems, as well as knowledge exchange on fire-resilient ecosystems and land-use planning. On 1 June 2026, ENVI Members will examine whether the EU is on track to meet its biodiversity targets, based on the EU’s 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The discussion comes ahead of COP17 in Yerevan in October 2026, which will serve as the midpoint review of global efforts to meet the 2030 biodiversity targets. Adopted at COP15 in 2022, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework sets out 4 global goals and 23 targets to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, with a longer-term vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050. COP17, taking place in Yerevan from 19 to 30 October 2026, will assess collective progress at the halfway point and identify gaps that may prevent the targets from being met. The Commission's 7th National Report summarises progress under the EU's National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSABs) for 2020-2030, reflected in the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. Members will exchange on how implementation is tracked through EU progress-monitoring tools, as well as on remaining weaknesses, including the Commission's finding that data on non-energy environmentally harmful subsidies remains lacking at EU level. The exchange may also cover other COP17 priorities such as resource mobilisation, biodiversity finance, and governance standards.Source : © European Union, 2026 - EP
