[ESG경제신문=김연지 기자] 재생에너지와 전기차 보급 확대가 호주의 온실가스 배출량 감소를 이끌고 있다.호주 정부에 따르면 재생에너지 설비 확대, 화석연료 사용 감소, 전기차 보급 가속화 등의 영향으로 호주의 지난해 연간 온실가스 배출량은 약 2% 줄었다.호주 정부가 최근 발표한 분기 보고서에 따르면, 지난해 12월까지 1년간 호주의 온실가스 배출량은 4억5890만 톤의 이산화탄소환산량(CO₂e)을 기록했다. 이산화탄소환산량은 이산화탄소뿐 아니라 메탄, 아산화질소 등 여러 온실가스를 기후변화 영향 기준으로 환산해 합산한 수치다.전

On 3 June 2026, ENVI and TRAN Members will discuss the draft report on the Commission proposal on Clean Corporate Vehicles, which is part of the Automotive Package. The proposal aims to accelerate the uptake of zero- and low-emission vehicles in corporate fleets while supporting industrial competitiveness and the transition to cleaner mobility. The proposal introduces tailored national targets for the share of zero- and low-emission cars and vans registered by large companies from 2030 onwards, while excluding SMEs from its scope. It complements existing CO₂ emission standards for manufacturers by strengthening demand for cleaner vehicles and supporting the development of the second-hand market for zero-emission vehicles. The proposal forms part of the EU's broader climate, industrial and mobility policies and seeks to contribute to the Union's 2030 and 2050 climate objectives while preserving flexibility for Member States in implementation. Members will discuss key amendments tabled in the draft report, including provisions on targets and scope, the inclusion of e-bikes and cargo bikes, the definition of the "made in the EU" concept, measures to strengthen the second-hand market, and the balance between technological neutrality and the prioritisation of zero-emission vehicles. On 2 June 2026, ENVI Members will consider the draft report on the revision of Regulation (EU) 2019/631 on CO₂ emission standards for cars and vans, which forms part of the Commission’s Automotive Package. Regulation (EU) 2019/631 sets CO₂ emission performance standards for new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles and is a key element of the Union's Fit for 55 framework and climate neutrality objective for 2050. The Commission proposal aims to adapt the framework to market and technological developments by revising the 2030 and 2035 CO₂ reduction targets for cars and vans and introducing fuel credits, low-carbon steel credits, and a harmonised EU framework for vehicle labelling and consumer information, adjusted reduction targets for light commercial vehicles, extended super-credits for electric vans, the creation of a category for vehicles running on eligible fuels, which would include all RED-compliant fuels, and the earlier application of fuel and low-carbon steel credits. On 2 June 2026, Members will hold an exchange of views with Commissioner Lahbib on preparedness, civil protection and crisis management as part of the structural dialogue.Members will be given opportunity to exchange with the Commissioner on the role of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, and RescEU. On 2 June 2026, ENVI Members will hold an discussion regarding the Commission report on the simplification review of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Director-General Eric Mamer will present the report and accompanying simplification measures aimed at facilitating the implementation of the Regulation and reducing the administrative burden for operators. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), adopted in 2023 and amended in 2024 and 2025, requires the Commission to carry out a simplification review and report on possible further measures. On 4 May 2026, the Commission published its review together with a set of accompanying simplification measures. These include updated Guidance and FAQs to clarify obligations across the supply chain, a draft delegated act revising the product scope, improvements to the IT platform, and plans for new trade facilitation tools such as repositories of national legislation and recognised certification schemes. The report concludes that the measures introduced since 2024, together with the new simplification actions, are expected to reduce annual compliance costs for companies by around 75% compared to the initial framework, while significantly reducing administrative burdens.
